The Department of Environmental Management and Natural Resources under the College of Environment and Natural Resources was established under the Decision No. 187/QDDHCT dated February 19, 2008 and officially changed its name to the Department of Environmental Management according to the Decision No. 264/QD - DHCT on January 30, 2015. The Department of Environmental Management educates scientific and technical with bachelor's and master's degrees in the field of Environment and Natural Resource Management. In addition, the Department also has strengths in scientific research and technology transfer in the field of environmental and natural resource management. From 2013-2014, the Department participated in self-assessment of undergraduate and graduate education programs according to AUN standards and in 2016 the Department continued to conduct self-assessment of undergraduate education programs in Management of Natural Resources and Environment according to AUN standards and recognized as meeting the quality standards of education programs according to AUN-QA standards according to Decision No. 5747/QD-ĐHCT dated December 26, 2016.

As of April 2023, the labor force of the Department includes 8 teaching staffs including 2 associate professors, 4 doctorates, 1 master's degree, and 1 doctoral student. It is now managed 1 bachelor programme and 1 master programme majoring in environment and natural resource management. Currently, the Department is continuing to focus on improving the quality of educating, developing human resources along with promoting scientific research, technology transfer and international cooperation.

TEACHING AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORKS
The main tasks of the Department of Environmental Management include:

  • Educating staff with university and graduate degrees in the field of Natural Resource and Environment Management;
  • Conducting basic and applied research as well as technology transfer in number of areas, including: (i) Planning for environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources, (ii) Environmental and natural resources management based on community, (iii) Strategic environmental assessment and environmental impact assessment, and (iv) Application of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing in the field of environmental and natural resource management towards sustainable development in the Mekong Delta. Relying on its own internal strength and expanding cooperation with domestic and foreign partners.

OPERATION DIRECTIONS
In the coming time, the Department will focus on a number of main tasks as follows:

  • Developing human resources through continuing to send staff in the Department to study advanced specialties under short-term or long-term training courses (Master, Doctoral, Postdoctoral);
  • Improving education by creating conditions for students to participate in short-term training classes abroad;
  • Consolidating and strengthen equipment and teaching facilities by taking advantage of domestic and foreign investment capital sources;
  • Consolidating and expand domestic and foreign relations and cooperation to improve the quality of teaching, scientific research, consulting and technology transfer.
