What is AUN-QA?

AUN stands for ASEAN University Network. This is a network of leading universities in Southeast Asia (Southeast Asia) established in 1995 with initial members nominated by the Ministry of Education of the countries. AUN currently has 30 members, including Vietnamese members who are Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho University.

AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network - Quality Assessment) is a set of standards with many strict quality rules. Each rule has clear, specific and focused criteria for assessing the quality assurance conditions of the entire training program. AUN-QA was established with the mission of promoting quality assurance activities at higher education institutions, improving the quality of higher education and cooperating with domestic and foreign organizations.

How is AUN-QA assessed?

After studying the feedback and adjusting, the AUN-QA standard set has only 8 standards with 53 criteria (Version 4.0). These standards include:

In order to meet the educating quality according to the vision and mission of Can Tho University as well as the benefits brought by AUN-QA accreditation, the Department of Environmental Management has registered to carry out "External Assessment according to AUN-QA Standards” from 19-21 September of 2023. For the purpose of implementing legal regulations on education quality accreditation, assessing the actual quality of training programs as a basis for continuous improvement and improvement of education quality.

In order to achieve the best results in Accreditation, the Department of Environmental Management would like to inform all teachers, colleagues, employers, leaders of units, alumni of the program, PhD students, graduate students and Students majoring in Environment and Natural Resource Management and other disciplines inside and outside the University are entitled to receive information, support, share and contribute to activities.

Implement Plan No. 814/KH-ĐHCT-QLCL dated March 30, 2022 of the Rector of CTU on the implementation of quality assessment of education programs according to AUN-QA Standards for the period of 2022-2023, College of Environment and Natural Resources plans to carry out the self-assessment of the quality of education programs in Environment and Natural Resource Management at university level according to AUN-QA Standards in the period of 2022-2023. The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has conducted this Self-Assessment Report (SAR) of its Bachelor of Engineering in Environment and Natural Resources Management (BEENRM) programme according to AUN-QA criteria to review the training process as a whole to point out its strengths and weaknesses.  On that basis, it is possible to identify measures to improve the training quality to meet the development requirements of Can Tho University (CTU), the society as well as the desire for integration into regional and international education.  This is also CTU’s commitment to society and employers regarding the quality of its training programmes. The preparation process of SAR of the BEENRM programme is based on Plan No. 814/KH-DHCT-QLCL dated March 30, 2022, by the Rector of CTU and Plan No. 1134/KH-DHCT-MT&TNTN, dated on April 25, 2022, by the Dean of the College of Environment and Natural Resources (CENRes).  

The SAR consists of four parts:

• Part I_ INTRODUCTION: includes the executive summary, the organisation of the self-assessment, and an overview of CTU, the CENRes, and DEM
• Part II_ AUN-QA CRITERIA: details 8 criteria of the AUN-QA version 4.0 written up to meet the requirements of the AUN-QA Version 4.0.
• Part III_STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES ANALYSIS AND QUALITY ENHANCEMENT PLAN: provides detailed analyses of the strengths, weaknesses, self-evaluation, and quality enhancement plan of BEENRM programme.
• Part IV_APPENDICES: lists evidence to justify the criteria section

The main content includes:

• Regarding the training programme (Criterion 1-4):

The BEENRM programme started in 2008 with 138 credits (111 compulsory and 27 electives; training duration of 4 years) was applied for Cohort 34 and 35. After 4 modifications, the current programme has 161 credits (111 compulsory; 50 electives; training duration of 4.5 years). It has been applied for Cohort 48 since Semester 1, 2022-2023, including 3 blocks of knowledge: General knowledge; Fundamental knowledge and Specialised knowledge.  The BEENRM 13 learning outcomes are aligned with the objectives stated in the Vietnam's Law on Education, CTU and CENRes. Teaching and learning methods (direct teaching, indirect teaching, self-study, group discussions, situation-based teaching, scientific research projects) and assessment methods (attendance, assignments, presentations, group work, essay exams, multiple-choice exams, graduation thesis defense) are implemented using the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) process to ensure that expected learning outcomes are met.

• Regarding the resources (Criterion 5-7):

The number of CENRes teaching staff is relatively stable and well meets the requirements of training, research and public service activities. Currently, the CENRes has 48 teaching staff, including 01 professor, 16 associate professors, 17 doctorates an 14 masters. 100% of lecturers have postgraduate qualifications. The facilities of CTU and the CENRes are well-suited for teaching, learning, and research, and they are regularly renovated using funds from domestic and foreign sources, particularly the ODA project.

• Regarding the outputs (Criterion 8):

Between 2018 and 2022, the dropout rate tended to fall slightly, the number of graduates in each cohort reached 100%, and most of them had jobs or continued to study at higher level. More than 95% of employers were satisfied with the quality of employees trained from CTU.  In addition, CTU graduates' professional knowledge and skills, as evaluated by both alumni and employers, can meet job requirements.
